U.S. citizen, 18, handcuffed by ICE after agents doubted her ID in Norfolk
Britney Ramirez-Corona, an 18-year-old U.S. citizen born in Norfolk, was handcuffed by ICE agents on Tidewater Drive after she went to retrieve a truck belonging to her fiancé, Oscar Amaya Bueso, who was detained along with his brother and another man during a targeted immigration operation. Ramirez-Corona said agents questioned the authenticity of her Virginia ID and Social Security card, and that she repeatedly told them she was a U.S. citizen but was detained anyway, with her young sister present at the scene. She said an agent shoved her during the encounter. The couple had been due to marry the following week. She was later released after her citizenship was confirmed, and said she now fears future encounters with immigration agents despite carrying documentation. The detention prompted a protest on Friday.
