Cumberland County corrections officer with valid work permit detained by ICE
Bill Bassikissa Bounguiena, a Cumberland County corrections officer, was detained by ICE in South Portland, Maine in June 2026. He had been hired by the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office in August 2024, had no disciplinary issues, and the Sheriff's Office said he 'demonstrated dedication to his duties' by frequently working overtime. He held an employment authorization document confirming he could legally work in the United States until 2030. The Sheriff's Office said it had no further information explaining why ICE detained him.
