Meatpacking worker detained in ICE raid as broader fraud scheme uncovered at plant
Guadalupe Cabrera Mejia, a Glenn Valley Foods employee, was detained during the June 10, 2025 ICE raid and charged with felony misrepresentation of a Social Security number. Federal prosecutors allege she used the Social Security number of a U.S. citizen who had previously reported identity theft to the Internal Revenue Service. At her initial appearance in federal court, the judge ordered her to remain behind bars pending trial, and ICE placed a detainer on her as a precursor to deportation. A subsequent multi-agency investigation found that the raid, which led to 70 arrests at the plant, uncovered a broader identity theft scheme in which workers used stolen Social Security numbers to obtain wages, health benefits and employment authorization, affecting more than 100 victims across states including Pennsylvania, Texas, Colorado, Missouri and California.
