Marine veteran's wife detained by ICE for months, then released
Paola Clouatre, a 25-year-old Mexican-born mother of two and wife of Marine Corps veteran Adrian Clouatre, was arrested by ICE agents on May 27, 2025 at a USCIS office in New Orleans following her permanent residence status interview, reportedly while breastfeeding her three-month-old baby. She was detained based on a 2018 final removal order she was unaware of, stemming from a missed immigration hearing by her mother. Adrian cared for their two young children while seeking to overturn the order through an emergency motion, and Senator John Kennedy's office also advocated for her case. Clouatre spent two months in ICE's detention center in Monroe, Louisiana before an immigration judge granted her motion to reopen her case. She was released on August 5, 2025 while her legal process continues.
