U.S. citizen detained 7 hours by ICE after photographing agents' license plates
Berenice Garcia-Hernandez, a 25-year-old U.S. citizen, was detained by ICE for about seven hours after she photographed unmarked ICE vehicles near a Chick-fil-A in Gresham, Oregon. She said she acted after seeing a Facebook post warning the community about ICE agents in the area, whose original poster said he was too scared to photograph the vehicles' license plates himself. Garcia-Hernandez drove to the restaurant in her fiancé's government-plated car and photographed the agents before leaving, after which agents followed her and approached her car when she stopped at a red light. She said one agent recorded her but refused to show identification, and agents later broke her car window and removed her from the vehicle during her detention. No criminal charges had been filed as of publication.
