Federal agents conduct operation at Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis

Federal agents conducted an enforcement operation at Roosevelt High School in south Minneapolis on January 7, 2026, around 3:30 p.m. as classes were ending. According to witnesses, agents tackled individuals and deployed chemical irritants on school grounds using unmarked vehicles. DHS stated the operation targeted a U.S. citizen who rammed a government vehicle and led agents on a chase, and that a teacher assaulted a Border Patrol agent as a crowd formed. Minneapolis Public Schools cancelled classes for the remainder of the week following the incident.

ICE officers arrest Salisbury woman outside elementary school

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested 24-year-old Vanessa Parrazal on December 17 outside Pinehurst Elementary School in Salisbury, Maryland, moments after she dropped off her child. The arrest occurred in the 400 block of Pinehurst Avenue, near but not on school property. A witness reported the arrest involved physical force.

ICE detained Augsburg University student without showing warrant

17-year-old U.S. citizen high school student detained by ICE during lunch period in McMinnville

A 17-year-old U.S. citizen and high school senior was detained by ICE agents in Yamhill County, Oregon on Friday during the school lunch period. According to ICE, the student allegedly followed and obstructed federal agents in a vehicle. The student's family confirmed he is a U.S. citizen. McMinnville School District Superintendent Kourtney Ferrua stated the school had not previously had ICE visits and is working to support students' social and emotional needs following the incident. The minor was transported to the ERO Portland office for investigation and potential federal prosecution for impeding federal law enforcement officers. Students nearby witnessed the detention.

U.S. Citizen High School Senior Detained by ICE in Oregon

Christian Jimenez, 17, a U.S. citizen and high school senior, was detained by ICE officers while driving off school grounds during lunch break in McMinnville. An officer broke the car's driver's side window and detained Jimenez despite him stating he was a U.S. citizen. He was transported to an ICE facility in South Portland and released shortly before 7 p.m. Authorities are attempting to charge his brother with obstruction of investigation.

ICE detains Chicago daycare teacher; federal judge rules detention illegal

On November 5, 2025, ICE agents detained Diana Patricia Santillana Galeano, a teacher at Rayito de Sol Spanish Immersion Early Learning Center in Chicago's North Center neighborhood, during morning drop-off hours. According to DHS, officers conducted a traffic stop that led to a vehicle pursuit ending at the daycare facility. Agents entered and forcibly removed Galeano in front of children and parents, searching the facility. Galeano claimed to have work authorization and a pending asylum case, while DHS identified her as undocumented from Colombia. A federal judge subsequently ruled her mandatory detention illegal and ordered a bond hearing before an immigration judge. The incident prompted a rally of hundreds of community members and local officials demanding ICE stay out of schools and daycares.

Fifth grade teacher in Colorado detained by ICE with family

A fifth-grade teacher at Global Village Academy in Parker, Colorado was detained by ICE agents along with her minor children and transferred to an ICE facility in Texas over the weekend. The school said the teacher was authorized to work with valid employment authorization through spring 2029, but ICE stated she entered the country illegally near Yuma, Arizona on December 2, 2022.

Immigration agents arrest CPS vendor outside North Side school

Oak Park attorney detained by ICE outside elementary school

An Oak Park civil litigation attorney was arrested by ICE agents outside his child's elementary school on Monday morning. The attorney was detained after following an ICE van and honking his horn and blowing a whistle, which he said was to identify the unmarked vehicle. He was charged with impeding federal agents and held for approximately one hour before being released near the school.

Agents drag sisters from car at elementary school

ICE agents conducted an enforcement action at West Loop Elementary School in Chicago, Illinois during afternoon school pickup. Thirteen masked agents surrounded a car and removed two sisters who were DACA recipients and were eventually released after proving their legal status. One sister, Jocelyn, stated the agents did not have a warrant. The driver of the vehicle was also the other sister. A teacher exiting an Uber at the time recorded video of the incident after hearing children screaming.

Chicago children traumatized after tear gas deployed during immigration enforcement operation near school

On October 3, 2025, federal agents conducting an immigration enforcement operation in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood deployed tear gas near Funston Elementary School, traumatizing hundreds of children and families in the area. Children playing on school grounds, eating at a nearby café, and walking home from school were exposed to the gas, including toddlers as young as 14 months old at Luna y Cielo Play Cafe, where nannies rushed children to a back room as the gas spread. Teachers, including Liza Oliva-Perez, were also tear-gassed while attempting to protect students, and parents like Molly Kucich abandoned errands to reach their children amid the chaos. Federal agents chase two men from Waukegan into Gurnee high school, threaten pastor with pepper spray

In Illinois, two men in a pickup truck were pursued by federal agents for nearly 10 minutes from Waukegan into Gurnee, colliding with at least three other vehicles and losing a tire, before driving onto the grounds of Warren Township High School as special education students were arriving for class. One man was detained in the parking lot and another was chased into a classroom and arrested in front of students; the school said neither man was a student or affiliated with the school. As agents walked the two men to vehicles, one pointed pepper spray at community members and staff who had gathered nearby, including a Lutheran pastor who was threatened twice for trying to record the event; the school's superintendent asked staff to keep the men and their families "in your thoughts and prayers."

Portland parent deported before domestic violence court appearance

Denis Omar Rivera Martinez, a 42-year-old parent from Honduras, was arrested by ICE agents outside Gerald E. Talbot Community School on September 11 and deported to Honduras on October 8. An immigration judge ordered his removal before Rivera Martinez could appear in court for a pending domestic violence charge, preventing him from responding to the allegations. The District Attorney stated ICE did not notify her office of his deportation status, and a scheduled court hearing on Thursday found neither prosecutors nor the judge aware of his whereabouts.

D.C. neighbors escort immigrant children to school amid ICE operations

Deaf disabled teen handcuffed at gunpoint outside LA school in mistaken ID case

Agents showed a photo of a Salvadoran national suspected of gang ties and mistook Baldemar for him, releasing him only after he repeatedly stated his name and citizenship; the encounter lasted about seven minutes before agents realized their error. His mother said an agent told him the mistake would make an 'exciting story to tell' his friends, and she said her son has since felt harassed and unsafe. School officials said agents wearing 'police' and 'Border Patrol' insignia left bullets at the scene, prompting increased school police patrols. The family's attorneys later filed a $1 million claim against DHS, CBP, Border Patrol and ICE alleging racial profiling, false arrest, false imprisonment, and assault and battery; DHS denied racial profiling, calling it a case of mistaken identity.

Masked individuals in unmarked cars surrounded and handcuffed the man near campus around 7:50 a.m. He was held in an ICE vehicle in a nearby parking lot and released within an hour after providing documentation and confirming his identity.

Disabled U.S. citizen student detained by ICE outside LA high school, family files $1 million claim

A 15-year-old disabled U.S. citizen was detained by ICE and Border Patrol agents outside Arleta High School on August 11, 2025, and his family formally filed a $1 million claim against the Trump administration this week, alleging unconstitutional racial profiling and a Fourth Amendment violation. At a press conference outside LAUSD headquarters, the boy's mother, Andreina Mejia, described masked agents drawing guns and handcuffing her son without questioning him, despite being told he was a citizen with developmental disabilities. The Trump administration maintains it was a case of mistaken identity, saying agents were seeking someone who resembled the boy. LAUSD student detained by ICE for months released after immigration judge grants bond
