A video captured ICE agents detaining several immigrant workers in Danbury, Connecticut on Monday, August 24, showing an agent kneeling on a man lying face-down on the street with his hands behind his back while pointing an object toward his head. The person who filmed the video, who asked to remain anonymous, told N+ Univision that one of those detained was his friend, whom he had met at a shelter, describing him as "super amable" and someone who always greeted people warmly. The witness said he and his friend were preparing to leave for work with a group of other workers when immigration agents arrived and began detaining people without identifying themselves.

Trans Brazilian woman violently pulled from car by ICE agents outside D.C.

Aug 23, 2025Silver Spring, MDBrazil

Alice Correia Barbosa, a transgender Brazilian woman, was detained by plainclothes ICE agents on August 23 after being pulled from a car in Silver Spring, Maryland, near Washington, D.C. Video of the arrest showed multiple men unbuckling and forcibly removing her from the vehicle while misgendering her. DHS said Barbosa overstayed her B-2 tourist visa by nearly six years and cited prior arrests for drug possession as reasons for the detainment; a senior DHS official also referred to her by her birth name and male pronouns when asked for comment. She has since been held at the Caroline Detention Center in Virginia, and ICE has announced plans to deport her. Brazilian Congresswoman Erika Hilton called the arrest unconstitutional and asked Brazil's Foreign Ministry to intervene, and the Brazilian Consulate General in Washington said it is monitoring the case and providing consular assistance. A friend, describing her as a vibrant volleyball player and beloved daughter, started a GoFundMe to help fund her legal defense.

Father's truck shot at by ICE agents in San Bernardino, later detained for months

Aug 22, 2025San Bernardino, CA

Francisco Longoria was driving with his family, including his teenage son, in San Bernardino on August 16, 2025, when masked ICE and CBP agents in an unmarked vehicle surrounded their truck with weapons drawn and smashed the driver's window without identifying themselves. Longoria drove away, and agents fired at least three shots at the departing vehicle, with bullets striking near where his son was seated; no agents were reported injured. Federal authorities claimed Longoria drove toward officers and that agents fired in self-defense, while the family disputes this account. Longoria was initially released at the scene due to California's sanctuary policies, but was later charged with weaponizing his vehicle against officers and detained for months before the charges were dropped. Agents later surrounded the family's home for several hours after the family refused entry without a warrant. The family and their attorneys have filed a lawsuit alleging the shooting violated use-of-force policy and a court order against racial profiling, and are requesting a criminal investigation.

Aug 20, 2025Connecticut

ICE Boston, in coordination with the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, DEA, and ATF, apprehended 65 people during a four-day enforcement operation from August 12-15, 2025, targeting transnational organized crime, gangs, and offenders with serious criminal histories across Connecticut. The operation, named Operation Broken Trust, included arrests at courthouses in Stamford, Norwalk, and Danbury, as well as street arrests. According to ICE, 29 of the 65 people arrested had been convicted or charged with crimes including kidnapping, assault, drug offenses, weapons violations, and sex crimes. The operation was conducted in response to Connecticut's Trust Act, which was expanded in May 2025 to further limit state and local law enforcement cooperation with ICE, including honoring detainer requests. Immigration advocates protested the operation and criticized ICE's tactics, including arrests at courthouses and use of force against protesters.

Bystander Detained in Anaheim Car Wash Raid as ICE Sweeps Expand Across Orange County

Aug 16, 2025Anaheim, CAMexico

On August 16, 2025, ICE conducted enforcement operations at a Home Depot and car wash in Anaheim, detaining at least five people despite a federal court order barring sweeps based on race, language or employment type. At the Euclid Car Wash, agents deployed tear gas against a crowd of bystanders and detained Isaac Dominguez, a Black bystander and U.S. citizen who was there to wash his car, in what city officials say was the third such incident at that location since July 3. Anaheim Mayor Ashleigh Aitken has criticized the continued raids as targeting workers based on job, skin color or language, and officials report federal agents have also returned to the same Home Depot on Brookhurst Street at least six times since early June, with enforcement spreading to day laborers in Garden Grove and car wash workers in Santa Ana.

Assault Charges Dropped Against LA Anti-ICE Protesters Over Officer's Hidden Record

Aug 13, 2025Los Angeles, CA

Federal Protective Service officers arrested more than a dozen protesters outside the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles during Occupy ICE demonstrations that began in early July. Protesters maintained an encampment and said they were targeted for exercising First Amendment rights, while officials initially cited charges including assaulting officers and vandalism; the ACLU filed a lawsuit alleging excessive force and constitutional violations. Prosecutors later dropped assault charges against two protesters after defense attorneys said the officer named as the victim in both cases had failed to disclose prior criminal convictions. In one case, the officer's claim that he was punched in the face was contradicted by video of the incident.

Two brothers from Guatemala arrested by ICE inside Stamford courthouse bathroom

Aug 11, 2025Stamford, CT

Two brothers from Guatemala were arrested by ICE agents inside a Stamford courthouse on August 11, 2025, around 11:15 a.m., after locking themselves in a bathroom. Federal officers in military-style vests and masks kicked in the bathroom's glass panel, handcuffed the men, and walked them to vehicles outside; witnesses reported the use of pepper spray and a Taser. A state judicial marshal attempted to stop the agents from entering, and a family member who asked to see identification or an explanation said none was provided. The family member described the brothers as undocumented workers who pay taxes. The arrests occurred after President Trump's administration reversed a federal policy that had prohibited immigration enforcement in courthouses.

Men Arrested Again Outside Stamford Courthouse Despite New Limits on ICE

Aug 11, 2025New York, NY

Federal immigration enforcement officers arrested two undocumented immigrants inside the Stamford courthouse on August 11, 2025, forcibly entering a bathroom and breaking a door panel during the encounter. The arrest, which followed the Trump administration's reversal of a federal courthouse enforcement policy, sparked public outcry and led 21 Connecticut state senators to request in September that the state's highest court issue orders prohibiting arrests without judicial warrants in or near courthouses, citing concerns that facilities are being used as "mouse traps" rather than centers for justice. On October 27, 2025, agents arrested two more men in the courthouse's parking garage, including one who was sitting in a car with his wife at the time; bystanders filmed the encounter, and the video was shared thousands of times online. Advocates with Stamford Norwalk United For Immigrants said officers did not display badges or warrants, and the arrests occurred about a month after Connecticut began requiring a judge-signed warrant for ICE arrests at state courthouses.

ICU nurse Amanda Trebach arrested while documenting immigration enforcement, released without charges

Aug 9, 2025San Pedro, CA

Amanda Trebach, a registered nurse and U.S. citizen working in intensive care units serving low-income communities in Watts, Compton, and South Central Los Angeles, was arrested by federal agents on August 8, 2025, while documenting immigration enforcement operations at Terminal Island in San Pedro as a volunteer with Harbor Area Peace Patrol and Unión del Barrio. Video evidence shows masked federal agents pinning her face-down to the pavement, kneeling on her head, handcuffing her, and placing her into an unmarked van. CBP accused her of jumping in front of vehicles and obstructing federal agents; witnesses and video disputed these allegations. Trebach, whose cell phone was confiscated without a search warrant, says agents did not identify themselves and told her to stop photographing. She spent approximately one day in federal custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles before being released without criminal charges. Her release followed demonstrations at the detention center and calls from local elected leaders, including Councilmember Tim McOsker, who characterized the arrest as "apparently illegal and unconstitutional." National Nurses United, representing 225,000 registered nurses, celebrated her release. Trebach has continued documenting immigration enforcement operations and has been working to protect migrant patients from immigration raids; she reports that migrants in her community are now avoiding hospitals out of fear of encountering immigration enforcement.

San Francisco protester to face trial over ICE officer confrontation

Aug 8, 2025San Francisco, CA

ICE officers tackled and detained two protesters outside San Francisco's ICE field office on August 8, 2025, during an hourslong standoff; after officers fired pepperballs under a garage door, both protesters were released by 7 p.m. that evening. One of the protesters, Caleb Alexander Ranney, was later charged in December with two misdemeanors, assaulting a federal officer and destroying government property, related to the incident. His trial is scheduled to begin with jury selection, though the presiding judge is weighing a defense motion citing alleged government mishandling of evidence, following earlier rulings that agents unconstitutionally searched Ranney's backpack and that items taken from it were lost or destroyed.

Judge dismisses case against LA protester, says government acted in bad faith

Aug 2, 2025Los Angeles, CA

A federal judge dismissed charges against Jonathon Redondo-Rosales, a 36-year-old TikTok creator and U.S. citizen arrested at an August 2 protest against immigration enforcement, after finding the government acted in bad faith. Redondo-Rosales had spent six months in jail awaiting trial for allegedly assaulting a Federal Protective Service officer with a cloth hat. The judge noted discrepancies in the officer's statements, that video evidence contradicted the assault claim, and that prosecutors sought dismissal to avoid disclosing problematic officer records rather than address legitimate legal issues.
