Indian man denaturalized for alleged fraud in naturalization process

Vietnamese national arrested in Houston after 15 years evading deportation

Dinh Quy Nguyen, a Vietnamese national convicted in 1989 of attempted capital murder of a police officer and burglary, was arrested by ICE in Houston on May 5, 2026. Despite being ordered deported in 1997, he remained in the U.S. for over 15 years due to Vietnam's refusal to repatriate nationals who arrived before July 1995; he was released back into the community in 2011 after the initial removal order. He is currently held at Montgomery Processing Center in Conroe, Texas, with preparations underway for his removal to Vietnam.

Indian-American businessman Debashis Ghosh faces denaturalization for alleged fraud concealed during naturalization.

Debashis Ghosh, a 62-year-old Indian-American businessman, faces denaturalization after the Department of Justice moved to revoke his U.S. citizenship. Ghosh became a U.S. citizen in 2012 but falsely claimed during his naturalization application that he had no criminal history. He was convicted of wire fraud in 2017 involving a $2.5 million investor fraud scheme from 2010-2014, which he concealed during citizenship proceedings. Authorities allege he conspired to defraud investors of funds intended for an aircraft maintenance facility and misrepresented the safekeeping of investor money. Ghosh is among 12 individuals targeted by the Justice Department for denaturalization on various charges including fraud, war crimes, and support for terrorist groups.

Zong Yang deported to Laos, separated from U.S. family.

Zong Yang, a South St. Paul resident who legally immigrated to the U.S. as a child, was detained in February 2026 during Operation Metro Surge and deported to Laos in May over a 1999 felony burglary conviction in Wisconsin. Yang had never lived in Laos before and does not speak the local language. He is now permanently barred from returning to the United States and living in Vientiane with other deportees while trying to support himself through low-wage work.

Chinese man denaturalized for alleged fraud in naturalization process

Pin He, a native of China, was targeted for denaturalization for obtaining citizenship under the identity Pin He in 2013 after being ordered removed under the name Chun Di He in 1992. He applied for immigration benefits under a different identity the following year and obtained permanent residence in 2007 without disclosing his prior removal order.

Court interpreter detained 45 days despite valid work authorization, judge orders release

Meenu Batra, a 53-year-old certified court interpreter fluent in Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu, was detained by ICE agents on March 17, 2026, at Valley International Airport in Harlingen, Texas while traveling for a court assignment in Milwaukee. Batra fled India approximately 35 years ago after her parents were killed in violence connected to their Sikh religion and was granted withholding of removal status by an immigration judge in 2000. She has maintained valid work authorization that she regularly renews and continues to be valid for several more years, and has worked in immigration courts for over 20 years. Batra is a single mother of four U.S. citizen children, including youngest son Jasper Batra, who joined the U.S. Army shortly before her arrest. She was held at El Valle Detention Center in Raymondville for 45 days, during which she alleged denial of food, water, and medication. On April 30, 2026, federal judge Rolando Olvera in Brownsville issued a temporary restraining order ordering her release, finding the government lacked proper justification and had violated procedural protections and due process. Her attorney noted she has had only one speeding ticket in the last 30 years.

Fulbright scholar Ranjani Srinivasan's visa revoked, fled to Canada

Ranjani Srinivasan, an Indian citizen, Fulbright scholar, and Columbia doctoral student in urban planning, had her visa revoked by DHS without explanation. ICE agents visited her building three times, twice without a warrant. She fled to the United States and remains in Canada.

Minnesota man detained 90 days, facing deportation to Laos

At "Ricky" Chandee has spent 90 days in ICE detention as the Trump Administration seeks to deport him to Laos based on a conviction from the early 1990s. His family is working to prevent his deportation and keep him in the United States.

Afghan high school senior detained by ICE on expired parole error, released on bond after two weeks

Rihan Shinwari, an 18-year-old Afghan high school senior at Cheshire High School in Connecticut, was detained by ICE on April 6, 2026, during a traffic stop. ICE detained him based on erroneous paperwork claiming his humanitarian parole had expired in October 2025, though court filings confirmed it remained valid until October 2026. His family had legally entered the U.S. on humanitarian parole in October 2024 after his father served as an interpreter for U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Held at Plymouth County Correctional Facility in Massachusetts for over two weeks, an immigration court judge set his bond at $1,500 and ordered his release on April 21, 2026. Rihan was released on April 22, 2026, and remains in removal proceedings; his attorneys sought reinstatement of his humanitarian parole.

Man in fatal Oregon crash ordered deported before standing trial

Rajinder Kumar, a 32-year-old Indian national who was living and working in the U.S. without legal status, was detained by ICE on April 22, 2026, after posting bail following a fatal November 24, 2025 crash on U.S. Highway 20 in Deschutes County, Oregon, that killed newlyweds William Micah Carter and Jennifer Lynn Lower. He has been held at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma, Washington, and faces felony charges of manslaughter and reckless endangerment. On July 1, 2026, U.S. Immigration Judge Drew Nishiyama ordered Kumar deported to India before he can stand trial on those charges. Deschutes County Attorney Steve Gunnels and the victims' families said they had hoped Kumar would face trial in the U.S. for the deaths of Carter and Lower.

Truck driver detained after weigh station stop, federal judge finds rights violation

Jagdish Singh, an Indian citizen with valid work authorization through May 2029 and a pending asylum case, was arrested by ICE on February 11, 2026, after being pulled over at a weigh station near Mitchellville, Iowa during a joint operation between Iowa State Patrol and ICE called "Operation ICE Wall" that targeted commercial drivers near Interstate 80. Singh was detained in Polk County Jail without the opportunity to argue for release on bond. On April 20, a federal judge ruled that the government violated Singh's Fifth Amendment due process rights by arresting him after years of allowing him to live and work in the United States, though the judge stopped short of ordering his immediate release and instead directed an immigration judge to determine if continued detention is warranted. Singh sued the federal government over the alleged violations of his rights.

Indian national arrested; deportation proceedings initiated after visa overstay

Bangladeshi former student self-deports after two months in detention

Ten Indian nationals indicted in Massachusetts visa fraud and staged robbery scheme

Navy veteran's wife detained at green card interview, medical emergency in ICE custody
