Salvadoran TPS holders remain in limbo after DHS misses deadline without action
Sep 9, 2026·Location: Washington, DC
Country of origin: El Salvador

El Salvador's Temporary Protected Status deadline of September 9, 2026 passed without the Department of Homeland Security issuing the legally required termination notice. DHS has not announced a decision, posting only that "an announcement on El Salvador's TPS will be made at the appropriate time." More than three weeks later, the agency has offered no timeline or explanation, leaving more than 170,000 Salvadorans uncertain about their ability to legally work and remain in the U.S.
