Organizers of Passaic, New Jersey's annual Mexican Parade, a 30-year tradition drawing about 15,000 attendees, indefinitely postponed the Sept. 27 event over concerns that immigration enforcement could target attendees. Local business owners, including restaurant owner Leticia Ortega, say customer traffic has dropped sharply, forcing staff cuts; Ortega's son-in-law, a U.S. citizen, has been detained since October. Mayor Hector Lora said he was disappointed by the postponement and hopes community leaders will organize an alternative event to celebrate the city's Mexican community.
