ICE detains record number of pregnant women amid medical care concerns
Sep 30, 2026

A Guardian U.S. investigation found that ICE is detaining a record number of pregnant women, many of whom report they lack access to proper medical care, and that the agency has lost track of the number of miscarriages occurring in custody. DHS disputed the report, stating ICE tracks miscarriage data monthly under a 2021 directive and that pregnant detainees receive prenatal visits, mental health services, and nutritional support. DHS said pregnancy makes up 0.15% of all detainees in ICE custody as of June 30.
