On September 2, ICE agents and local police stopped and arrested construction workers building an addition at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Montour County, Pennsylvania, as the men left work for the evening on roads near the facility. ICE said it arrested 10 people, though advocates and a witness say the total, including people picked up on other dates and at worker housing, may exceed 40. Two local police chiefs, a Geisinger spokesperson and an ICE spokesperson have all said the arrests did not occur on the medical center campus itself. A Pennsylvania organizing director with We Are CASA and a spokesperson for the ACLU of Pennsylvania said the operation has deepened fear in immigrant communities about seeking medical care, while ICE defended its enforcement as targeting anyone in the country illegally.
