A Noticias Telemundo investigation found at least 31 ICE impersonation cases in 2025, up from a decade-long annual average of 5.3, with incidents including armed home invasions, robbery, kidnonapping, assault and rape. The investigation found that violent incidents rose to 38% of cases in 2025, compared with 23% between 2014 and 2024. In one unsolved case, armed men posing as ICE agents broke into a Greensboro, North Carolina home on the night of Trump's January 2025 inauguration, injuring a resident and pointing a weapon at an infant during a robbery. The FBI issued an internal bulletin in October 2025 warning that criminals were exploiting ICE's public profile to target immigrant communities, after identifying at least five such cases between January and August of that year.
