Congressional Leaders Demand Transparency on Immigration Detention Deaths
Jun 8, 2026·Location: Seattle, WA

U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal and 70 Members of Congress are demanding transparency from ICE following a record number of deaths in immigration detention facilities. In 2025, there were 31 deaths in custody, with six additional deaths reported in early 2026, including cases where ICE mischaracterized homicides as suicides. The letter highlights systemic failures including inadequate medical care, inedible food, unsanitary conditions, and the Trump administration's blocking of Congressional oversight.
