Christian Jerez Andrade, a Honduran construction worker, was detained by ICE agents on March 11, 2026, during a traffic stop in South Burlington after agents claimed he rammed their vehicles; ICE later said it had mistaken him for a different, Mexican immigrant it was seeking. The crash and chase preceded a standoff at a nearby home on Dorset Street, where hundreds of anti-ICE activists gathered to block agents from entering. More than four months later, the U.S. Attorney has brought no federal charges, and the U.S. attorney's office declined to comment when asked if ICE still stands by its account. Separately, South Burlington police completed an investigation finding evidence to charge Jerez Andrade with leaving the scene of an accident and grossly negligent driving, but that case has also languished with local prosecutors; he was jailed for eight days before being released on bond while facing deportation proceedings.
