U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted a series of highly visible arrests across Milwaukee's south side and Waukesha over the last week of June 2026. According to Voces de la Frontera, at least 18 people were arrested, most with open asylum cases or prior deportation orders and no serious criminal charges. Bystander video analyzed by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel showed agents in unmarked vehicles and face coverings boxing in cars, breaking windows, and pointing guns and Tasers during arrests; in one case, agents smashed the windows of a car and pulled 31-year-old Estenderly Marte Polanco from the vehicle while her 7-year-old son watched from the backseat. The arrests came amid a national surge in ICE activity, with the agency detaining more than 10,000 people in the final five days of June, and the Department of Homeland Security said officers are trained to use only the minimum force necessary.
