Cases dismissed in court, then arrested in the hallway
Reported cases describe immigration judges dismissing asylum or removal cases, after which ICE agents arrested people in courthouse hallways or just outside, in cities including Chicago, Miami, San Diego, Phoenix, and El Paso. Those detained include asylum seekers, a newlywed, and a mother with a U.S. citizen infant, some held for months in detention centers. First documented in May 2025 and recurring monthly since June 2025, this pattern peaked in May 2025 and makes up a smaller share of recent reported cases.
