ICE arrests 13-year-old in Everett, transfers to Virginia detention facility

A 13-year-old Brazilian boy with a pending asylum case was arrested by ICE in Everett after an interaction with local police and transferred to a juvenile detention facility in Winchester, Virginia. His mother was told she could pick him up from the Everett Police Department but was informed ICE had taken him instead. A federal judge ordered the government to justify the arrest by October 14 or provide a bond hearing by October 17.

Houston Police Transfer Missing Autistic Teen to ICE Despite Active Missing Person Report

A 15-year-old boy with autism and special needs, Emmanuel González Garcia, went missing on October 4, 2025, after wandering away from his mother Maria García's fruit stand in Houston. Houston Police Department located him the next day but did not connect him with the existing missing person report due to a name discrepancy (Manuel vs. Emmanuel). HPD contacted ICE and transferred the boy to federal immigration custody. García was without knowledge of her son's whereabouts for nearly a week until an immigration attorney intervened. The teen is now in Office of Refugee Resettlement custody and is facing emergency appendix surgery. An investigation into the Houston Police Department's procedures was initiated following the incident.

Pennsylvania exoneree detained by ICE upon release from prison

Subramanyam Vedam, a legal permanent resident born in India, was released from a Pennsylvania maximum security prison after 43 years when prosecutors abandoned his murder case. He was immediately placed in ICE custody at the Moshannon Processing Center and is being held while fighting deportation, with a judge denying him bail.

Mother of three struggles with $15,000 legal fees after husband detained on DUI charge transferred to ICE

Garcia's husband was arrested by a Manatee County sheriff's deputy on a DUI charge last October and transferred to ICE custody. He is being held at a detention center in California. Garcia, a mother of three, works as a cleaner and party venue staff member while applying for a T visa (trafficking victim relief) for both herself and her husband at a cost of approximately $15,000. She disclosed that at age sixteen, smugglers brought her into the U.S. and held her against her will for years in what she describes as kidnapping; her husband faced labor abuse as an H-2A visa migrant farmworker before overstaying. Since his arrest, Garcia has taken only one day off for an immigration appointment. Most of her earnings go toward legal fees and her husband's detention account so he can purchase food and make phone calls home. With limited funds remaining, she struggles to feed her children and has had to forgo celebrating family birthdays and holidays.

Mexican man deported to South Sudan repatriated to Mexico

Jesus Munoz-Gutierrez, a Mexican migrant who had been ordered deported to Mexico by an immigration judge in 2005, was instead placed on a deportation flight to South Sudan in July 2025 as part of the Trump administration's immigration crackdown. Immigration officials said he had recently been identified as a member of a criminal organization. He was one of eight men deported to South Sudan on July 5 after a legal battle, and a federal judge ruled the flight violated a court order requiring migrants be given a meaningful opportunity to object to their removal. Mexico later accepted his return after receiving assurances he would not face torture or inhumane treatment, and he was repatriated to Mexico.

Jamaican man deported to Eswatini after serving sentence, family loses contact

Orville Etoria, a 62-year-old Jamaican man with legal permanent residence in the U.S., was deported to Eswatini in July 2025 despite serving his sentence and complying with ICE supervision orders. After his release from prison in 2021, he lived in New York, obtained a master's degree in theology, and worked at a men's shelter while reporting regularly to ICE. When ICE requested he obtain a Jamaican passport earlier in 2025, he complied, but was instead sent to Eswatini rather than Jamaica. His family did not know his whereabouts for several days, and his attorneys report they have been unable to contact him and fear for his safety. Jamaican officials stated their country does not refuse repatriation of its nationals.

Woman detained by ICE after 911 call over mental health crisis following miscarriage

Iara do Carmo Santana, a 29-year-old Brazilian woman recovering from a miscarriage, surgery and subsequent infection, was arrested by Malden police after her fiancé, Gabriel Lemos, called 911 out of concern for her mental health; she was charged with domestic violence. After being released from police custody, she was detained by ICE agents waiting outside and taken to an ICE field office in Burlington, where she said she was denied a medical assessment, a Portuguese interpreter, and consistent antibiotics and pain medication for roughly four days as her infection worsened. Her lawyers filed a habeas petition alleging ICE violated her due process rights given her recent surgery, and U.S. District Judge Leo T. Sorokin ordered her release, calling the lack of medical care 'a serious issue' and the Burlington facility's conditions 'troubling as a systemic matter.' Santana had applied for asylum and held employment authorization working as a house cleaner; she is engaged to Lemos, a lawful permanent resident, and has since been reunited with him and her six-year-old son, though her domestic violence case remains pending and she still faces possible deportation.

Salvadoran man freed after judge rules months-long ICE detention violated due process

David Antonio Aviles Perez, a 35-year-old Salvadoran national known as 'La Bruja,' was arrested by ICE in San Diego on March 26, 2025, and held at Otay Mesa Detention Center for nearly five months without a bond hearing. U.S. District Judge Jinsook Ohta ruled on August 26, 2025 that immigration officials violated his Fifth Amendment rights by failing to make an individualized assessment of danger or flight risk, ordering his release and barring re-detention unless an immigration judge independently finds it warranted. In December 2025, a court in El Salvador convicted him in absentia of aggravated murder for a July 2014 killing in La Union and sentenced him to 20 years. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin publicly criticized Ohta as an 'activist judge,' saying her ruling released a 'wanted murderer.'

Guatemalan man detained by ICE at Phoenix Police Department without warrant

A Guatemalan man who entered the U.S. without inspection in 2019 was arrested and detained by immigration officials at the Phoenix Police Department on August 25, 2025. He alleges that no agent produced a warrant, explained the reason for detention, or provided any documents. The court ordered respondents to answer his habeas corpus petition within 20 days and denied his motion for temporary restraining order.

Three Hispanic women detained by ICE while heading to work in Arizona

Basilia López, Christina Flores Prado, and Cristina López Flores were detained by ICE agents in Arizona on the morning of August 5 while traveling to their jobs. According to their families, all three women are employed and have no criminal records. One of the detainees is pregnant and required medical attention after experiencing severe pain while in custody. The women's families say they still have not received an explanation for the detentions and have been searching for information about their whereabouts. Their attorney, Rey Ibarra, is reviewing the case.

U.S. citizen student's mother deported, leaving teen to support household alone

Allison Garcia, a 17-year-old U.S. citizen honors student, was left to manage her family's mortgage and finances alone after her mother Patricia Balbuena Soto was arrested by local police on a domestic dispute warrant in July 2025 and subsequently deported to Mexico by ICE in August. Garcia missed 21 school days, dropped two AP classes, and saw her 4.8 GPA decline to 3.5 while working extra shifts to cover household expenses. Her $10,000 college fund was depleted by her mother's legal defense costs.

Oak Forest man remains in ICE custody awaiting immigration hearing

Hamed Alsaidi, 31, an immigrant from Jordan living in Oak Forest, Illinois, was arrested by Mokena police on Aug. 1 after officers found eight glass bottles filled with an ignitable liquid in his backpack along with a map of Orland Park labeled with the word "mosque." A Will County judge granted him pretrial release with electronic monitoring on Aug. 2, and the sheriff's office said it was barred under the Illinois TRUST Act from honoring an ICE detainer lodged against him that day. ICE took Alsaidi into custody on Aug. 4 and charged him in federal court with felony unlawful possession of a weapon and obstructing identification. As of August 2026, he remains in ICE custody in Indiana, awaiting the outcome of his immigration hearing.

Five noncitizens deported after criminal convictions

The US Department of Homeland Security announced on August 14 the deportation of five noncitizens with criminal convictions, including an Indian man deported on August 3. DHS alleged he had a criminal history involving sexually motivated coercion using force, burglary, and theft. The other four deportees were nationals of Guatemala, Mexico, and Chile, removed between August 4 and 6 following convictions for offenses including homicide, negligent manslaughter, driving under the influence, illegal re-entry, firearms violations, and residential burglary. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the removals were part of the administration's broader enforcement effort targeting people it considers dangerous.

Italian national detained at Florida ICE facility after jail release, denied legal access

Gaetano Cateno Mirabella Costa, 45, an Italian national from Sicily, was arrested by ICE officials in early 2025 upon his release from jail after serving a six-month sentence for domestic violence and drug possession. He is being held at the ICE detention center known as "Alligator Alcatraz" in the Florida Everglades, where he is housed with 32 other detainees in cramped conditions with open bathrooms. According to his account to Italian state broadcaster RAI, he has been denied access to a lawyer or judge. His mother, Rosanna Mirabella Costa, reported he appeared at a hearing in shackles and has not seen daylight for extended periods. DHS states Costa overstayed his B2 visa by nearly seven years. Italian diplomatic officials have sought consular access to verify his wellbeing, and Italian lawmakers have pressed for intervention over detention conditions.

Cuban Man Detained by ICE After 20 Years Under Supervision

A Cuban citizen who had been under ICE supervision since 2006 was detained by ICE in July 2025. He was held at Camp 57 in Angola, Louisiana, then transferred to Arizona where he was scheduled for deportation to Mexico. The court granted a temporary restraining order blocking his removal, finding he was denied proper notice and hearing before being deported to a third-party country where he has no connections.

Jose Juarez Ramos, a 29-year-old Mexican citizen, was arrested in June 2025 for immigration law violations and fraud related to possessing counterfeit permanent resident and Social Security cards. After being released on a $50,000 bond on June 25, he was transferred to ICE custody pursuant to an immigration detainer and deported without notice to him or his attorney before his scheduled arraignment on June 27. His federal public defender filed a motion to dismiss the charges with prejudice, arguing the government violated his Fifth and Sixth Amendment rights and the court's release order.

Iranian woman's mental health medications withheld following detention in post-bombing sweep

Arzou Hami, an Iranian woman suffering from serious mental health issues, was detained in June 2025 as part of a sweep of Iranian migrants following U.S. military action against Iran. She was detained by Buffalo ICE agents at the Niagara County Jail before being transferred to Texas. Her attorney alleged in court filings that her detention prevented her from receiving mental health medications. Her attorney reported she has received some medication, but it is not the same as what she was previously prescribed.

Jose Manuel Rodriguez-Quinones, a Cuban man with prior convictions in Florida, was arrested by ICE in April 2025 and placed on a deportation flight that was diverted to a U.S. military base in Djibouti after a federal judge found it violated migrants' due process rights. The flight, carrying eight men including fellow Cuban Enrique Arias-Hierro, held them in a converted shipping container, according to court filings. On July 3, 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the lower court's order, and the flight proceeded, with Rodriguez-Quinones arriving in South Sudan on July 4.

Enrique Arias-Hierro, 46, of Cuba, had been ordered removed by an immigration judge in 1999 and did not appeal. He was arrested by ICE in early May 2025 and placed on a deportation flight to South Sudan, which a federal judge initially halted, diverting the flight to a U.S. military base in Djibouti where he and other migrants were held for weeks. The U.S. Supreme Court later overturned that judge's order, and Arias-Hierro arrived in South Sudan on July 4, 2025.

Tuan Thanh Phan, a Vietnamese man ordered removed by an immigration judge in 2009, was arrested by ICE in May 2025 and placed on a deportation flight to South Sudan, part of a group of eight men sent there under the program. A federal judge had ruled that the flight violated a court order requiring migrants be given a meaningful opportunity to object to removal on safety grounds. After nearly a year in South Sudanese custody, Phan was repatriated to Vietnam on June 19, 2026, in a move coordinated by the Vietnamese government and South Sudan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
