Masked ICE agents pull landscaper from work truck in Everett, witness films arrest

Oct 2, 2026Everett, WAGuatemala

A Guatemalan man working a landscaping job for Tommy Builders near Everett Community College was pulled from a work truck by six to eight masked ICE agents in tactical vests on a Monday morning in north Everett. Homeowner Jennifer Gordon recorded video showing the man shouting for help in English and Spanish, saying 'They don't have a warrant' and 'I can't breathe' as agents leaned over him; a second man working with him fled the scene. Gordon said the agents wore no badges or identification, used unmarked vehicles, refused to show a warrant when asked, and later photographed her house and address, which she said felt intimidating. ICE declined to confirm his identity, but DHS later said he had a criminal history and had been issued a final removal order in 2003 that was reinstated in 2011 and 2016 after alleged unauthorized reentry, and said officers used lawful, minimum-necessary force after he refused commands. A neighbor said an agent claimed the man was wanted over a murder allegation in his home country, which ICE did not confirm.

Ecuadorian brothers-in-law detained by ICE during Vermont roofing job; one released on bail

Oct 1, 2026Cornwall, VTEcuador

Angel and Alex Tixe, Ecuadorian brothers-in-law working on a roofing crew repairing Mary Richards' 160-year-old farmhouse in Cornwall, Vermont, were detained on Aug. 8, 2026, after ICE agents in three unmarked SUVs surrounded the property. Reporting indicates the stop began when a passing ICE agent spotted the crew on the roof. Agents did not present a warrant or identify themselves despite Richards' repeated demands, handcuffing one worker in the yard while others fled, some hiding in a tree, before the men were taken out of state to a detention facility in Massachusetts. Angel, whose wife Maria Tixe has a pending asylum case, was released on bail after 15 days in custody and returned to Vermont. Alex, Maria's 30-year-old brother and father of an 18-month-old son, remained detained, with his sister-in-law saying she was still fighting for his release. "We aren't criminals," Tixe said. "We came to work and to help our children get ahead." State Sen. Ruth Hardy, who visited Richards and spoke with the crew manager, said the arrests appeared to reflect racial and ethnic profiling and called the incident traumatic. Migrant Justice and Addison County advocates organized support, and a GoFundMe for the men's families and legal defense raised over $7,600.

Texas mother deported after teen son publicly confronted ICE over his detention

Sep 27, 2026Alamo, TXMexico

Teresa de Jesus Ochoa Briseño, 31, a cook at Carmelita's Restaurant in Alamo, Texas, was arrested by ICE agents outside her workplace around 5 a.m. on September 21, 2026, and deported to Reynosa, Mexico, later that day. Her 17-year-old son, Luis Ochoa, a U.S. citizen, had witnessed an ICE apprehension near a Marine Corps recruiting office days earlier and was himself detained after speaking out publicly; he said agents offered him money to stay quiet and threatened to detain his undocumented relatives. Luis believes his mother was targeted because of the attention her public criticism of ICE generated in local media. ICE said Teresa had a prior removal order from a July 2025 arrest for alleged illegal reentry and denied the deportation was retaliatory, describing it as part of a 'targeted operation.' Advocacy groups We the People RGV and Carnalismo Brown Berets are calling for a congressional hearing and independent investigation into the family's case.

Taqueria worker detained in immigration raid speaks from Florida jail

Sep 25, 2026Tallahassee, FLGuatemala

Catherine Rax, 25, was detained along with her partner and another coworker after a traffic stop escalated into an immigration enforcement operation at Chile & Chili's Taqueria in Tallahassee, where all three worked. Rax, who is originally from Guatemala, said her coworkers had become like family and that she sends money home to help her mother, who is battling cancer. Speaking from inside the Flagler County Jail, she described the experience as 'not living — it's surviving' and said she did not know when she would be released or see her family again. One of the three men detained with her is now being held at a state-run immigration detention facility in Baker County, and community members held a rally outside the now-closed restaurant in support of the detained workers. Owner Marco Tenorio, who was in Mexico and watched the raid unfold via security cameras, said it was the third immigration operation the business had faced in just over a month and described workers having panic attacks during the raid. He announced the taqueria's permanent closure, saying he did not want to keep exposing his employees, after several other workers quit in the aftermath.

Two Bismarck restaurant workers detained by ICE, prompting closure and community protest

Sep 25, 2026Bismarck, ND

Two employees of Charra's and Tequila, a Mexican restaurant in north Bismarck, North Dakota, were taken into ICE custody, including the owner's nephew. The restaurant's owner said the workers held permanent resident status and valid, unexpired work authorization, and described remaining staff as "scared" and the team as "in shock" following the arrests, prompting the business to temporarily close. An ICE spokesperson disputed this, stating the two workers had entered the U.S. without legal status and would remain in custody pending immigration proceedings. About 75 people gathered on September 25 to protest outside the William L. Guy Federal Building in Bismarck, opposing increased ICE enforcement activity that left at least 19 people in custody at the Burleigh-Morton Detention Center that week.

Houston teen cleans car windows after mother's deportation, blind father at home

Sep 24, 2026Houston, TXEl Salvador

Pedro Herrera, a 15-year-old in Houston, began cleaning car windshields with his 10-year-old sister to pay for hotel rooms and food after his mother, María Chica, was deported to El Salvador. His father, who lost his sight in a workplace accident, said "Se nos cayó el mundo" ("Our world fell apart") after losing his wife, the family's main breadwinner. The family had lost their home and was staying in a hotel room they had to pay for nightly. After a video of Pedro's story went viral, a GoFundMe campaign raised more than $125,000 in donations for the family.

Seven farmworkers detained by ICE in Yakima orchard raid

Sep 24, 2026Naches Heights, WA

At least seven undocumented farmworkers were arrested by federal officers while working in an orchard in the Naches Heights area outside Yakima on a Wednesday morning, according to the Yakima Immigrant Response Network (YIRN). Family members told YIRN that authorities lined up workers, handcuffed them, and questioned them about their immigration status; those detained were not H-2A visa holders. Evans Fruit, the orchard company, said officers had entered its property while pursuing a fugitive with an active warrant and that none of its own pickers were arrested. YIRN volunteers gathered information from affected families and deposited funds into detainees' commissary accounts, while the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project pledged to provide legal counsel to those detained.

21 farmworkers detained in ICE raids across Southern Oregon farms

Sep 23, 2026Medford, OR

ICE detained at least 21 people, believed to be agricultural workers at local cannabis farms, during raids conducted September 23-24 at farms in Ruch, West Medford, and Cave Junction, Oregon. The September 23 raids in Ruch and West Medford involved DEA, Customs and Border Protection, Medford Police, and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, and resulted in 13 detentions, with eyewitnesses documenting a GEO Group passenger van loading detainees at the Medford ICE office. A separate raid on September 24 at a farm in Cave Junction involved the FBI, Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team, Josephine County Sheriff, Oregon State Police, and ICE, with at least 8 people detained and GEO Group vehicles, including a Nissan Pathfinder and passenger van, observed on site. Advocates with Rogue Valley Migra Watch say these raids, along with a July 2025 raid that detained 17 farmworkers, represent the largest documented ICE operations in Southern Oregon and have questioned whether local and state law enforcement participation violates Oregon's sanctuary law barring such agencies from assisting federal immigration enforcement.

Guatemalan asylum seeker dragged from car after agents smash window in New Bedford

Sep 22, 2026New Bedford, MAGuatemala

A New Bedford man from Guatemala, who arrived in the U.S. four years earlier and had work authorization while his asylum application was pending, was detained by ICE agents on Tuesday while on break from his job at an auto repair shop. According to his brother, identified only as Nicolás for fear of being targeted himself, the man did not immediately open his car door when agents approached, so an agent smashed the window to pull him out. Nicolás said his sister had also been arrested during a 2007 immigration raid in New Bedford. He later spoke with his brother by phone, who was being held at ICE's facility in Burlington, Massachusetts.

Gas station worker called town's 'unofficial mayor' detained by ICE in Washington

Sep 17, 2026Conway, WAMexico

Juan Gerardo Alatorre Martinez, 46, a Mexican national who has lived in the U.S. for more than 25 years, was detained by ICE agents as he arrived for his shift at a gas station in Conway, Washington. Neighbors and coworkers described him as a beloved figure in town, sometimes calling him the 'unofficial mayor,' noting he paid taxes, kept his immigration paperwork in order, and had spent years helping others in the community. Martinez had been pursuing lawful permanent residency through a petition filed decades ago by his U.S. citizen brother and says he does not want to self-deport. His attorney said the original ICE report indicated agents were searching for someone connected to a car Martinez was driving, though DHS said the arrest was part of targeted enforcement citing civil violations including driving without a license. While held at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma, Martinez has described unsanitary conditions, medical neglect, and witnessing another detainee injure himself, as community members have raised over $20,000 for his legal defense.

Danville construction workers describe aggressive tactics as ICE disputes total arrests

Sep 8, 2026Danville, PA

Federal agents returned to the area of the Geisinger Medical Center construction project on September 8, following earlier September 2 arrests connected to the same project, with advocates reporting eight more people detained in the second operation. Workers told advocates that agents used drones, monitored vehicles and worked with local police during the arrests, with one worker describing it as feeling like a "manhunt" that has left coworkers afraid to return to work. Advocacy groups have said more than 40 workers were detained across both operations, but an ICE spokesperson said the agency arrested 10 people in Danville, stating they face felony charges for illegal reentry after prior removal and did not cite any record of violent crime.

ICE detains 10 day laborers outside Phoenix Home Depot, activists say

Sep 7, 2026Phoenix, AZ

ICE agents conducted an operation in the parking lot of a Home Depot on 43rd Avenue in west Phoenix, detaining about 10 people early Saturday morning, including day laborers waiting for work and some customers exiting the store. Witnesses said agents disguised themselves as day laborers and unhoused people before making arrests, and cell phone video showed men handcuffed and seated beside the road as agents surrounded them. Erika Andiola of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network and Clarissa Vela of People First Project said many of those detained did not match the administration's stated focus on people with criminal records, with some detainees having only come to shop. Activists noted ICE Mobile Criminal Apprehension Teams have routinely conducted undercover license-plate-scanning operations at the same location. ICE has not publicly released details about the operation, and protesters and day laborers returned to the store two days later.

Two Austin restaurant workers detained by ICE arriving for their shift

Sep 7, 2026Austin, TX

Ramon Avilez-Frias and Maria Del Pilar Moreno-Loredo, longtime employees of Cisco's, Austin's oldest Tex-Mex restaurant and bakery serving the East Austin community for more than 75 years, were detained by ICE on September 7 at 6 a.m. as they arrived for work. Both are described by employer Matt Cisneros as hardworking, tax-paying people with no criminal records who are parents and spouses. Cisneros started a GoFundMe to help their families cover legal costs and daily expenses while they remain in ICE custody, and as of September 11 the campaign had raised more than $21,000 of its $22,000 goal from over 270 donations.

Kansas father detained at job site, deported to Mexico after 18-day detention ordeal

Sep 4, 2026Lawrence, KSMexico

Oscar Sanchez-Corona, a 36-year-old construction worker who was brought to the U.S. as an infant and grew up attending Shawnee Mission schools, was detained by ICE agents on August 18 while pouring concrete at a job site in Lawrence, Kansas, shackled in front of coworkers. Over 18 days he was transferred through Leavenworth's Midwest Regional Reception Center, Winn Correctional Center in Louisiana, and a facility in El Paso, Texas, describing leaking ceilings, understaffed units, inadequate food, denial of contact lens solution, and witnessing other detainees struggle to get insulin; he said he lost eight pounds. He was ultimately deported on foot into Juarez, Mexico, separating him from the two elementary school-aged children he shares custody of in Johnson County. DHS cited reinstatement of a prior removal order tied to a teenage misdemeanor property-damage charge, a 2013 deportation after failing to comply with a voluntary departure order, illegal re-entry, and convictions for drug paraphernalia possession, criminal property damage, and driving without a license. A family friend, Skylar Roush, described him as 'a regular American guy' who lived a peaceful life as a worker and father, and his daughter drew a picture asking ICE not to take him away.

ICE agents surrounded and entered a factory in McCook, Illinois without a warrant, detaining two people. Mother deported despite bond, others detained in NY snack factory raid

Sep 3, 2026Cato, NYGuatemala

More than 60 federal agents raided the Nutrition Bar Confectioners plant in Cato, New York in September 2025, herding roughly 160 workers into a breakroom and arresting 57 of about 100 people questioned, including pregnant women and mothers of young children. Body camera footage later released in a lawsuit showed agents breaking down a locked bathroom stall door to remove a female employee and separating workers by citizenship status, with some told they would be arrested if they asked for an attorney. Argentina Juarez-Lopez, 50, invoked her right to counsel, but an agent falsely claimed she confessed without one; a federal judge called the conduct 'grossly negligent' and suppressed the evidence, yet she was deported after her case was dismissed. Juana Castillo Avelar, a mother of three U.S. citizen children who had lived in the U.S. over 20 years, was granted $9,000 bond but was deported before ICE would release her, based on a false claim she had appealed. Only five of the 57 arrested faced criminal charges, mostly for illegal reentry, and no charges have been filed against the company. The New York Civil Liberties Union and the Worker Justice Center of New York filed a lawsuit alleging officers lacked arrest warrants, exceeded search warrant authority, and violated workers' Fourth Amendment rights; one deported plaintiff has since been allowed to reenter the country while attorneys for another seek his return.

Brazilian father deported after ICE detained him and son during Martha's Vineyard fishing trip

Sep 2, 2026Menemsha, MABrazil

Rogério da Silva Lima, 42, a Brazilian carpenter and painter living on Martha's Vineyard, was taken into ICE custody with his teenage son Nycolas during their first fishing trip together near Menemsha after the U.S. Coast Guard boarded their boat and transferred them to ICE at Woods Hole. His employer, Rory Moreis, called him a 'hard worker' who was 'determined, dedicated, no limit to the hours or days to work,' while family friend Andrea James described him as 'a hard-working man' and his son as 'the kindest kid on the planet.' DHS said the pair entered the U.S. without authorization in 2021, that da Silva Lima's asylum claim was denied and his appeal dismissed in 2024, and both had been issued removal orders in 2023. His attorney, Amelia Ritenour, filed an emergency habeas corpus petition, and a community GoFundMe raised more than $17,000 for legal aid. Nycolas was released after four days into his adult brother's care, and a federal judge, Indira Talwani, later ordered da Silva Lima's release, ruling ICE had missed the 90-day statutory window to detain and remove him. He remained under the removal order and ultimately departed the U.S. unshackled on a civilian flight paid for by ICE, saying, 'It was the worst feeling in the world. I love my sons, and I did not want to leave them behind.' His sons Nycolas and Nayran remain on Martha's Vineyard to continue school and work.
