US secretly deports Mexican migrants to Guatemala and Honduras
Aug 18, 2026
Country of origin: Mexico

The Trump administration has been quietly deporting Mexican migrants to Guatemala and Honduras instead of returning them to Mexico, according to two Department of Homeland Security officials who spoke anonymously to CBS News. The deportations, which fly migrants around Mexican airspace, have occurred for months and sent hundreds of Mexican citizens to the two Central American countries, though the precise number is unclear. Mexico's Foreign Ministry said it rejects the deportation of its nationals to third countries and has no such agreement with the U.S. A DHS spokesperson said the administration is using 'all lawful options' to carry out its deportation operations.
