Aug 28, 2026·Location: Springfield, OH
Country of origin: Haiti

The Trump administration rescinded Temporary Protected Status for Haitians, a move the U.S. Supreme Court allowed to take effect on July 27, and five Haitians from Springfield, Ohio have since been deported. More than 470 people were deported from the U.S. to Haiti between Aug. 20 and Sept. 17, with deportation flights to Cap-Haïtien increasing to weekly. In Springfield, immigration authorities have placed Haitian community members on ankle monitors and arrested their pastors, while advocacy groups and lawmakers warn deportees are being sent back into a country under a Level 4 'Do Not Travel' advisory amid widespread violence.
