ICE conducted a large-scale enforcement operation across Connecticut during the week of August 24, 2026, with more than 60 arrests documented in Danbury alone and additional detentions in Stamford, Bridgeport, Hartford and New Haven-area locations, for a reported statewide total of 118 people detained. Agents made arrests at workplaces, grocery stores, parks, bus stops, and near schools and daycare centers, including a father detained while walking his child to a bus stop, masked agents appearing at an elementary school, and a threat by agents to pepper spray a man detained in front of a preschool. Immigration attorney Glenn Formica said some detainees were held at unspecified 'dark sites' inaccessible to lawyers before being transferred out of state, and attorney access was also blocked in Hartford. Sen. Richard Blumenthal held a public forum with Danbury Mayor Roberto Alves, advocates and detainees' families, attended Hartford Immigration Court to observe proceedings, wrote to DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin and Acting ICE Director David Venturella seeking a meeting, and formally asked the DHS Inspector General to investigate reports of an agent kicking and tasing a man who was later hospitalized, agents breaking car windows, and detainees being removed in chains. DHS said those arrested included people with convictions for assault, sexual assault, false imprisonment and molestation of a minor, and stated that enforcement in Danbury and Connecticut would continue despite state law limiting local police cooperation with federal immigration detainers.
