Detainees chained and forced to sleep on floor at Miramar ICE facility, whistleblower says
Sep 21, 2026·Location: Miramar, FL

A whistleblower report released by Democrats on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform alleges severe overcrowding and abuse at the ICE facility in Miramar, Florida, which is typically used for routine appointments. At one point the facility held 342 people despite a maximum capacity of 50, and photos show detainees sleeping on the floor of an unventilated garage entrance while restrained with handcuffs, leg irons, and belly chains, with some elderly detainees chained for 16 hours a day. The report also describes overflowing and clogged toilets, human feces outside cell doors, and at times only three officers supervising more than 300 detainees. A related facility in Orlando was reported to have kept detainees without fresh air for two weeks at a time, black mold in air vents, and staff who allegedly deleted detention records in violation of judges' orders.
