ICE confirms detaining 8 in Manhattan, Kansas; local police weren't notified
Feb 5, 2026·Location: Manhattan, KS

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed, after a 236-day delay responding to a Freedom of Information Act request, that agents detained eight people during a February operation in Manhattan, Kansas. Unmarked cars and plainclothes agents were seen making early-morning stops at multiple sites, including a construction site at CiCo Park, Diamond Roofing, and the Northview neighborhood. ICE redacted all identifying details except that one arrest was custodial and seven were non-custodial. Riley County Police Director Brian Peete said federal agents did not notify local police of the operation, and that community members alerted RCPD before federal authorities did; Manhattan residents later held a protest against the operation, and Peete issued a public statement urging responsible dialogue and mutual respect.
