Judge expands border wall halt across Big Bend region of Texas
Oct 2, 2026·Location: El Paso, TX

U.S. District Judge Kathleen Cardone issued a preliminary injunction halting all border wall construction throughout the Big Bend Sector within one mile of the Rio Grande and inside state and national parks, pending a final ruling. The order also suspended the Department of Homeland Security waivers that had bypassed environmental and historical protection laws for the project. The lawsuit was brought by the Center for Biological Diversity, the Friends of the Ruidosa Church, and local river guide Billy Miller. Customs and Border Protection said it is reviewing next steps with the Department of Justice and has indicated it may pursue eminent domain cases against area landowners who have not agreed to the project.
