Detainees at Batavia Facility to Include Women as ICE Expands Capacity
Oct 2, 2026·Location: Batavia, NY

Rep. Tim Kennedy released a letter from Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin confirming a $17 million, 100-bed expansion of the ICE Buffalo Service Processing Center in Batavia, funded through Trump's tax and spending law. Mullin's letter states that as of July 8, 653 people were held at the facility, with 28% having a criminal background, before a targeted statewide ICE operation led to nearly 2,200 arrests across New York. The expansion, to be carried out by contractor Akima Global Services, will for the first time allow the all-male facility to house women, after a new state law ended local 287(g) agreements with ICE and stopped county jails from contracting to hold female detainees for the agency.
