Federal Homeland Security Investigations agents conducted a predawn raid on Rep. Ilhan Omar's Washington, D.C.-area home on October 12, 2026, seizing her cellphone and other personal items as evidence. A neighbor reported being awakened by loud banging around 4:30 a.m. Investigators also issued more than a dozen grand jury subpoenas to Omar's family members, including her sister, as part of a probe examining whether her family misstated her age when she arrived as a 12-year-old Somali refugee in 1995 before being naturalized through paperwork filed by her late father. Trump's 'border czar' Tom Homan later said it was 'of course' possible the administration could denaturalize and deport Omar. Omar said 'I'm ok,' while her office called the raid an 'outrageous abuse of power.' Democratic leaders including Hakeem Jeffries, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and Barack Obama condemned the actions as politically motivated, while Trump denied involvement but publicly disparaged her Somali origins at a rally. The investigation is part of a broader Trump administration denaturalization campaign that has filed at least 164 cases, criticized by the ACLU as targeting 'Black and Brown citizens.' No charges have been filed.

“For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.”
— Rep. Ilhan Omar
“Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,”
— Rep. Ilhan Omar
