Ricardo Gonzalez, a 40-year-old U.S. citizen born in Hanford, California, and a former Long Beach city employee of about eight years, was riding his e-bike in his North Long Beach neighborhood when an unmarked ICE vehicle struck or swerved toward him before agents tased him twice and pinned him face down in a gutter. Gonzalez had called 911 over concerns about unmarked vehicles shortly before the encounter. Cellphone video showed him handcuffed and screaming that his arm was broken and that he was a U.S. citizen, while neighbors and protesters gathered demanding agents leave him alone. Long Beach police said they were not involved in the enforcement action, removed his handcuffs at a nearby fire station, and fire personnel transported him to a hospital. His daughter, Leslie Gonzalez, described him as a hardworking, friendly family man who enjoys riding his e-bike and repairing cars, and started a GoFundMe that raised over $8,100 for his medical and legal expenses. ICE denied hitting him with a vehicle, claiming he was arrested after smashing a government vehicle's mirror. Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson called the incident 'outrageous and unacceptable' and filed a complaint with the DHS Office of Inspector General, while Congressman Robert Garcia called the video 'horrifying' and demanded an investigation.
