ICE agents arrested a man from Honduras during a targeted enforcement operation on the afternoon of Oct. 16 near 45th and Adeline streets in Emeryville, and he was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland. ACILEP said federal agents used excessive force in the arrest, but a DHS spokesperson denied this, claiming the man attempted to assault officers and refused commands, and that his injuries stemmed from a fall off a ladder two days earlier. After ACILEP announced on Oct. 18 that the man remained hospitalized, protesters showed up at Highland Hospital over two days to confront ICE agents and Alameda County sheriff's deputies stationed outside, though both the sheriff's office and Oakland police are barred by local law from cooperating with ICE. ACILEP said the man asked for privacy and declined to share further details about his case.
