Armando Gonzalez Procopio, a 49-year-old Mexican citizen who worked as a handyman and house cleaner in Big Bear Lake, California for over 20 years, was detained by ICE agents on March 31, 2026 while driving to work. He was held at the ICE Desert View Annex Detention Facility in Adelanto and placed in removal proceedings, with DHS citing a 2011 infraction for driving without a valid license, though court records show no conviction. His wife, Erika, is in hospice care with Stage 4 brain cancer after a five-year battle and has only days or weeks to live. Their three daughters—Adriana, 20, Citlalli, 26, and a 16-year-old—are now caring for their dying mother alone and described their father as the family pillar who put them through college and ensured their mother made it to medical appointments. The family sought donations for legal representation, and a court later granted a temporary restraining order ordering Gonzalez Procopio's immediate release from immigration custody, with a removal hearing also scheduled for April 10.
