Oscar Polanco was detained at a biometrics appointment in October and deported to Guatemala, a country he had not lived in for 20 years. His wife Geraldine, a dentist from Peru who sought asylum after robberies at her practice, witnessed his arrest; Oscar had filed paperwork to be included in her asylum case. The couple, who met at a church in West Adams and married in 2023, were separated for nearly three months before reuniting in Peru. They now plan to relocate together and rebuild their lives in Guatemala.
