Hundreds of Haitian Deportees Face Danger and Scarce Support After TPS Ends
Jul 26, 2026·Location: Springfield, OH
Country of origin: Haiti

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has deported more than 450 Haitians since Temporary Protected Status ended in late July 2026, according to Haiti's National Office for Migration. Many deportees had lived in the U.S. for years, with some separated from U.S. citizen family members and others reporting pending asylum claims. Human Rights Watch found that Haitian authorities lack the funding, staff, and policy frameworks to safely receive and assist returnees, who face ongoing gang violence and hunger. Deportation flights, now arriving weekly in Cap-Haïtien since the Port-au-Prince airport became unsafe, land in a city whose population has tripled amid surging violence.
