Pedro, a father of two sons whose wife Carmen is four months pregnant, was detained by ICE on April 17, 2026, with the assistance of state police in the Austin, Texas area. He has type 1 diabetes and, according to his family and advocates, is experiencing life-threatening medical neglect at the Hutto ICE detention facility in Taylor, Texas, and has been moved to a holding area that makes it harder for others to reach him. His wife and children are left without him as Carmen awaits the birth of their third child. Family members have organized a fundraiser for legal fees to secure his release and reunite the family. Pedro's case was reported alongside that of fellow detainee Gerardo Reyes Gonzalez, who also described inadequate medical care at the same facility.
