Queens residents rally again as ICE activity continues in Corona, Elmhurst
Aug 10, 2026·Location: Corona, NY

Hundreds of activists, volunteers, elected officials and city workers gathered at Corona Plaza on August 11 to protest a continued uptick in ICE arrests and detentions across Queens, with volunteers canvassing the neighborhood afterward to inform residents of their rights and help them prepare action plans. New York Immigration Coalition President Murad Awawdeh said more than half of recent ICE arrests occurred in Corona, though activity has continued citywide even amid less media coverage, and that demand for legal services has risen without matching resources. A coalition spokesperson said the group was aware of at least 20 ICE incidents in Queens over the past two weeks. City Council Member Shekar Krishnan and groups including Make the Road New York have continued to emphasize the role of immigrant essential workers, street vendors, caregivers, and small business owners in the community.
