Haitian TPS Holders Face Deportations as Protections Officially End
Aug 12, 2026
Country of origin: Haiti

Temporary Protected Status for Haitians ended on July 27, 2026, after the Supreme Court ruled in June that the termination could proceed, affecting an estimated 330,000 to 350,000 Haitian nationals. In the roughly two months since, more than 450 people have been deported to Haiti, according to Haiti's National Office for Migration, many after living in the U.S. for years and with American citizen family members. Human Rights Watch has documented deportees describing safety threats upon return amid gang control of Port-au-Prince, while ICE has expanded enforcement in cities with large Haitian populations, including Springfield, Ohio. A House-passed bill that would reverse the termination has stalled in the Senate without a vote.
