Communities rally against ICE enforcement, fear tears families apart
Aug 11, 2026·Location: New York, NY

Community organizations held a rally to protest ICE enforcement and document reported sightings across New York City, particularly in Corona, Queens. Advocates report increased fear and trauma in immigrant communities, with some vendors and workers avoiding public spaces due to concerns about police-ICE collaboration. The city recently terminated dozens of Haitian employees following the end of Temporary Protected Status in July. Organizers emphasize the psychological toll of enforcement on families and children while helping immigrants understand their rights. A follow-up rally in Corona Plaza drew hundreds of activists, elected officials and city workers, after advocates said more than half of recent ICE arrests citywide occurred in Corona; volunteers then canvassed the neighborhood to share know-your-rights information. The New York Immigration Coalition said it was aware of at least 20 ICE incidents in Queens over the prior two weeks and called for more resources to meet rising demand for legal services.
