Immigration officers diverted to hunt for noncitizens who registered to vote
Aug 25, 2026

Hundreds of immigration officers with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services have been diverted from their normal duties to screen voter data for noncitizens who registered to vote, according to former officials cited by the Washington Post. Fraud detection officers' usual work screening immigration applications for false information and security threats has largely halted as a result of the reassignment, which was described as part of President Trump's effort to raise doubts about noncitizen voting.
