Cato bakery raid body-camera footage released, new civil rights lawsuit filed
Sep 4, 2025·Location: Cato, NY

On Sept. 4, 2025, ICE agents raided Nutrition Bar Confectioners, a family-owned Cato, New York plant employing about 230 workers, detaining 69 people including three mothers with infants; Governor Kathy Hochul said agents separated workers by skin color. More than 50 detainees were deported and five were indicted for illegal reentry, while 15 New York sheriffs sued the state over a law limiting local-federal immigration cooperation. Body-camera footage made public in a new lawsuit shows officers forcing open a locked bathroom where two women, one pregnant, were hiding, separating workers by citizenship status, and warning some who requested a lawyer that they would be arrested if they did not answer questions; the footage also captures a Border Patrol agent making disparaging remarks about migrant children.
