CNN tracks data on arrests, detentions, deportations and deaths under Trump crackdown
Sep 10, 2026

CNN compiled data tracking immigration enforcement under the Trump administration, showing arrests soaring, immigrant detention up nearly 70% since early 2025, deportations intensifying, and detention deaths reaching their highest rate since the pandemic. According to TRAC at Syracuse University, most people arrested by ICE lack criminal convictions, though DHS says nearly 70% have been convicted or charged with a crime including pending charges. At least 20 people have been shot by on-duty ICE and CBP agents during the second Trump administration, and at least 57 people have died in ICE custody, with at least 10 presumed suicides. DHS disputes claims of medical neglect and says the death rate has not spiked, while Physicians for Human Rights and Human Rights First found the death rate has more than doubled.
