The Trump administration announced visa restrictions on South African officials it accuses of enacting policies that discriminate against white Afrikaners, including uncompensated land seizures and incitement of violence against minorities. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the measures are being implemented under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act and noted that family members of targeted officials may also face restrictions. The move continues a pattern of the U.S. cutting aid, barring South Africa from the G20 summit, and creating a refugee program for Afrikaners while dismantling other refugee and asylum programs. South Africa's government disputed the characterization of its policies.
