Trump officials funnel undocumented children into unlicensed Texas facilities
Sep 18, 2026

The Trump administration has begun sending most unaccompanied undocumented children with open immigration court cases to unlicensed shelter facilities in Texas, a sharp increase from previous months. Advocates fear this concentration in a state with fewer attorneys and stricter immigration judges could enable a 'deportation churn-out factory' with limited due process. An estimated 925 children were in ORR custody with Texas-based proceedings, with 651 sent there in July and August alone.
