Supreme court allows Trump administration to strip TPS from Haitians, Syrians
Jun 25, 2026

The US supreme court ruled in favor of the Trump administration's bid to strip temporary protected status from roughly 350,000 Haitians and 6,100 Syrians who had been legally living and working in the US. The justices held that courts cannot review the administration's TPS decisions, one of two immigration rulings issued in the government's favor that day. Senator Markwayne Mullin said of Haitians, 'We're going after them right now. These individuals can either self-deport or we'll arrest you and send you back.' Those losing TPS face possible deportation to countries including Afghanistan, Haiti and South Sudan.
