Peruvian man nearly deported to Central African Republic despite court order
Aug 29, 2026

A federal appeals court had to clarify that its ruling pausing the Trump administration's third-country deportation program barred officials from proceeding, after ICE moved to deport a Peruvian man to the Central African Republic. Lawyers for migrants returned to court to block the deportation after a DHS official argued publicly that the ruling was not yet in effect. The administration has reached arrangements with more than 30 countries, including Equatorial Guinea, with overall program totals estimated at more than 23,000 to 25,000 people expelled, and the Justice Department has appealed the case to the Supreme Court.
