DACA Recipients, Including a Father of Four and a Community Organizer, Released From ICE Detention by Judges' Orders
Aug 28, 2025·Location: Horizon City, TX
Country of origin: Mexico

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has detained DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients in recent months, including a father of four and a community organizer, amid raids, airport detentions and other arrests affecting the more than 515,000 DACA beneficiaries nationwide. Federal judges ordered both released from custody in late September and early October 2025. The father of four was freed Sept. 24 after 42 days at the Otero County Processing Center, where he said he was denied proper treatment for a dislocated shoulder and left without working glasses, and he returned the same day to his family in Horizon City, Texas. The community organizer was released Oct. 1 from a Texas holding facility, and federal prosecutors dropped the father's deportation case, which had stemmed from a disorderly conduct charge from when he was a minor.
