New York ICE operation results in 2,100 arrests over one month
Jul 28, 2026·Location: Queens, NY

A month-long federal immigration enforcement operation in New York City has resulted in 2,100 arrests, officials announced September 1. The operation began in late July, initially in Queens before expanding across the five boroughs, targeting individuals released from local custody despite ICE detainers, with agents authorized to make "collateral arrests" of others found without legal status. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the agency would continue sending additional personnel to New York as the state moves to end its cooperation agreements with ICE, including the 287(g) program that allows local officers to perform immigration enforcement duties. The operation follows weeks of criticism from White House Border Czar Tom Homan over New York's sanctuary-style policies.
