Released after public pressure

These documented stories describe people—including U.S. citizens, students, workers, and asylum seekers—detained by ICE or CBP at airports, traffic stops, and workplaces in states including Massachusetts, Florida, Connecticut, Washington, and Vermont. Many were held for days, weeks, or months, sometimes reporting medical neglect, before being released following court orders, bond payments, or public advocacy campaigns. First documented in February 2025, this pattern became recurring by July 2025, peaked in February 2026, and now represents a growing share of recent reported cases compared to earlier periods.

First documented Feb 2025, recurring since Jul 2025. Growing as a share of recent stories.

Share of each month's well-documented stories, Jan 2025 to Oct 2026. Volume is not shown: coverage grew over the record, shares did not have to.
